Special File – Volume Three (15): Princess Moon Owl Again

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:39 pm

Bormujos Tim’na (Jaye Paro) reports to John that Princess Moon Owl has returned, and has then vanished cinematically into a cemetery. She also claims Mt. Misery has been “inundated with dogs.” Louise and Helen also call. Both mention an upcoming meeting in Amityville. I guess that means that they’re either in contact with each other, or that someone else is in contact with both of them. Unfortunately, I don’t know what Sam’s file is.

Special File – Volume Three (14): A Fuse Blown, a Tape Erased

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:38 pm

John spends a few days in Washington with Lynn Catoe. He appears on some radio shows; the tape of one is erased by accident. A fuse blows as he discusses UFOs with Ms. Catoe. I haven’t seen the “Casey Truck” incident in these notes, but it appears in Chapter 17 of The Mothman Prophecies: Ms. Catoe drives to Ivan Sanderson’s farm, is stopped several times by a man in a truck, and later finds a lump of putty under her car. John describes her in detail, and specifies “Our relationship is not platonic.” Who did he think needed to know? Posterity, perhaps? Well, if so, here we are.

Special File – Volume Three (13): Mumps

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:29 pm

John resumes his daily entries, with more reports from Jaye Paro and Helen Oglemyer. Both report being taken to a big house, which Jaye later identifies as a church; both say they came down with the mumps, or something like it. In addition, Jaye makes some notes she can’t understand the next day.

I don’t know who Bill Donovan was, but a search reveals he was a member of NICAP. There’s more on the “Gordon Evans affair” here.

Special File – Volume Three (12): The Big “Hush Up” Plot

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:33 pm

The next item in John’s “Special File” is a four-page report on phone hoaxes. I already posted it here, since he also put it in another file. He continues with an account of a hoax to test Jim Moseley, and then more notes on his phone troubles. Complicated! I don’t know where he put that letter from Mrs. Jamroz.

Special File – Volume Three (11): The Cloudy Crystal Ball

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:07 pm

On the last day of 1967, John notes some of the prophecies he received from his network of contactees. He put his name and return address on it, so I assume it was meant for publication. Fortunately, these dire prophecies were not fulfilled.

Special File – Volume Three (10): “Men in Black”: Behavioral Patterns

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:49 am

The “Special File” continues with a summation of recent “Men in Black” cases. John describes their appearance and behavior, rejects the idea that they’re affiliated with any government agency, and urges witnesses to report any encounters or harassment to the police or F.B.I. I assume this was written for some UFO magazine or newsletter, but I don’t know which.

Special File – Volume Three (9): A Letter to Mary Hyre (January 8, 1968)

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:35 am

The next item in John’s “Special File” is a letter to Mary Hyre, written January 8, 1968, and following up on a telephone conversation from the night before. The Faye and Connie mentioned here are Mary Hyre’s sister, Faye Carpenter, and her daughter Connie, one of the first Mothman witnesses. “Jack Brown,” supposedly a Man In Black, and most certainly a disturbing character, has been making further trouble in Point Pleasant. Lester Holly was a UFO buff in the area.

Jaye Paro’s Article on Mount Misery

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 4:47 pm

I’ve had several requests for Jaye Paro’s article on Mount Misery, so I’m posting it here, since it’s probably hard to find now. It appeared in the July 1969 issue of Beyond magazine (see here for notes on her other articles). I previously posted the picture of Ms. Paro, and the shot of the strange creature, which to me looks like one of her friends in a costume. Here’s the rest, a lively collection of UFO sightings, forteana, and folklore from Long Island. I included the vintage ads, for fans of vintage ads.

Special File – Volume Three (8): A Letter to the McDaniels (January 7, 1968)

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:10 pm

Next in the file is a letter to Park and Mabel McDaniel, the parents of Linda Scarberry, one of the original Mothman witnesses. John warns them that he’s been receiving reports of a Keel double. He also mentions a visit to Lester Holly, a UFO buff in Ravenswood.

John also includes a clipping from the N.Y. Daily News, about the abduction of a young girl, which he marks as a “Probable MIB Case.” I apologize for the vintage photocopy, which has faded badly.

Special File – Volume Three (7): A Letter to Mary Hyre (January 1, 1968)

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:35 pm

It’s a new year, and John writes Mary Hyre a letter about his reactions to the Silver Bridge collapse. He’s puzzled by phone disruptions in Point Pleasant, and curious about reports of a man in a plaid coat. Gray Barker, not surprisingly, denies any knowledge of “Jack Brown.” John hasn’t had much work, and is considering, reluctantly, writing something for the National Enquirer.
