Taquara In the midst of his continuing drama with Jaye Paro and her unusual contacts, John answers a letter from Jerome Clark. He touches on many aspects of his and others’ research, assesses government interest in UFOs, reports on a radio show he did with Jim Moseley and Tim Beckley, and touches on the material he’s getting from Paro.

Thanks for the continued posts. It confirms to me that John was a boots-on-the-ground reporter when many others were just rehashing other people’s stuff. He was certainly hip deep in very unusual and weird happenings.

Very interesting. This site, and the content you publish, is quickly becoming one of my favorite late night go to haunts (together with archived Coast to Coast shows on YouTube). Keep up the great work! The world needs more John Keel!

This is a great letter that summarizes John Keels relationship with the paranormal. He was drawn in by facts and information no one could have possibly known, only to have disinformation about major events that made him look like a hoaxer. It describes a very active disinformation program so people can not distinguish a real event from a hoax. I think John told the story of the engineer Rex Ball who accidentally wandered into an underground base in 1940. A number of small Asian men in coveralls and american military officers were manning the base. One officer who spotted Ball yelled out to the others “Make him look like a nut!” Seems to have worked very well over the years!

Thank you Doug. Very interesting and I am also interested in knowing where from comes John’s distrust regarding Valée. I have read Valées books and thought they were more or less on the same wavelength regarding ufos.

I think John wanted to keep his investigation somewhat secret while it was happening. But I don’t think he and Vallee got along very well. Vallee had a Ph. D. and John was a high school dropout, which may have caused some friction. John also mentioned in letters to others that he thought Vallee was stealing his ideas. In “Forbidden Science,” Vallee mentions receiving “a strange letter” from John around this time (July ’67), and was worried about its “disturbing, prophetic style.” He wasn’t the only one who was concerned about John at this time.
