Betafo We’ve gone through the “Official Correspondence” file for 1966, so now I’ll turn to the correspondence between John and Lynn Catoe, with occasional contributions from Ivan Sanderson. John and Ms. Catoe did start dating after a few months; I will, of course, only post the letters about their UFO research. No love letters for you, Keel fans!
On October 12, Lynn E. Catoe, bibliographer for the Library of Congress, wrote to Margaret Rose for advice on a proposed bibliography of UFOs. I haven’t found anything about Margaret Rose, but I assume she had an interest in parapsychology, and was not the Countess of Snowdon of the same name. Ms. Rose passed on John and Ms. Catoe’s addresses to each other. Ms. Catoe’s UFO bibliography was published in 1969; it can be found here.

I am glad that I checked in today to see your new posts about Lynn Catoe and Ivan Sanderson etc… I was just thinking about MIBs and NJ, where I grew up. I was lucky enough to have visited the Sanderson farm/S.I.T.U. Hq. back in 1976,(sadly after Ivan Sanderson passing away, so I never got to meet him). It IS a remote and hard to find area, and not one where you’d expect to see large, low slung black cars passing by numerous times. Not to sidetrack any current work you have going on in the Keel archives, but have you come across any material between John Keel and Jen Stevens from the Scotia NY area? She and her husband Peter are mentioned in The Mothman Prophecies and elsewhere. As you know,Jen had formed a UFO research group and I have tracked down some background info about it and her efforts. I’d be happy to share it with you, here, if you like, or elsewhere. Anything you come across might help me pursue more leads and tie up some loss ends. Sadly, and specifically, one of the questions I had is about the death of her husband, Peter, which John Keel mentions. Due to conflicting info, I have not been able to locate his date and cause of death, through normal NY State sources. Thank you for any future help you might provide, and thanks for this site.

Paul — I don’t remember seeing anything about Jen or Peter Stevens, but they may turn up in these files. Meanwhile, there’s more about Sanderson coming up.

There was a Margaret Rose who was a librarian at the New School in NYC. Coincidentally, John’s Ms Rose’s address is on the same block as the central mailing address as the school. This fits in with my theory she was a librarian, from the content and purpose of her letter. But Im not sure I can make the time eras match.

It certainly makes sense that she be a librarian. I tried Googling her, but Margaret Rose is such a common name that I couldn’t get any satisfactory matches.

The Margaret Rose I mention is named in the acknowledgements of a book and thanked for doing research for the author in her job as a librarian at New School. Thats all I was able to find.

She sounds likely. Too bad it’s such a common name!
