Vikhorevka The last item in John’s “Mothman Casebook” is this article, cartoonishly entitled “It’s a bird.. it’s a plane… No, No, it’s ‘Mothman’ (gulp!)” It ran in Saga, November 1968, under the more sedate title of “Mothman Monster.” Here are the first three pages, beginning with previous sightings of strange creatures in West Virginia, and a history of “winged human beings.”
One of the craziest bigfoot sightings occurred in Braxton County and was reported by a named individual to a famous anthology site. A black mass lounging on the ground, or manifesting? After rousing itself, it comes straight on toward the witness who turns and flees down the mountain. The being had a long dark leathery face with deep cracks and a frightening and aggressive vibe. The man was left with permanent PTSD. That’s of course not as terrifying as the tale is when told in the witnesses’ own words…theres also another account of a young boy looking out of his second floor bedroom farmhouse window late one night and seeing under the floodlights in the yard the flatwoods monster moving along their country road. That one gives me the creeps even more because of its improbability and combination of the banal and the bizarre! Strange things moving in the dark and onLy seen by chance. What could it possibly have been doing?
